A Study of Church Discipline Implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 of Church members in the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja by Yohanis Luni Tumanan



ABSTRACT
Yohanis Luni Tumanan, A Study of Church Discipline Implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 of Church members in the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja. Supervised by Rev. Dr. Peniel C. D. Maiaweng (Promotor) Rev. Dr. Jermia Djadi (Co-Promotor). 

Church discipline is a part of Christ’s mandate for the church, which aims to maintain the purity and integrity of the church to be a testimony to the world as the body of Christ. From an ecclesiological view, one sign of true church is the implementation of biblical church discipline.
This study aims: first, to determine the trends of church discipline implementation based Matthew 18:15-17 on church members at the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja. Second, to find how large is the tendency of each indicator (X1-X4) in supporting church discipline implementation based Matthew 18:15-17 on church fellower KIBAID in Tana Toraja.
The method used in this study was a survey with explanatory and confirmatory answers. In-depth observation in this study was done by building theories or to theoretically examine those variables. The in-depth study (theoretical and theological review) is intended to result in explanatory or in-depth study of the dependent variables of “Church discipline implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 on church members in the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja” (Y). In addition, the researcher conducted a study on church documents such as Basic Budget/Home Budget, dogma and rule of church KIBAID.

This study resulted in the following findings: first, based on lower bound and upper bound values by 80.33-88.45, it can be concluded that the trend of church discipline implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 on church members in the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja is in the moderate category, meaning that it tended to be conducted sometimes and it tended not to be done sometimes. Second, there is a trend of church discipline implementation of church members in the KIBAID Gereja in Tana Toraja, an indicator of self-reprimand (Xi) which is at a moderate category moving  towards a higher category. This means that it tends to be done often; in other words its implementation is high enough. Third, there is a trend of church discipline implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 on church members in the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja, a reprimand indicator by presenting a witness (X2) at moderate category. Fourth, there is a trend of church discipline implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 on church members in the KIBAID Church in Tana Toraja, a public reprimand indicator (X3) at a moderate category. Fifth, there is a trend of church discipline implementation based on Matthew 18:15-17 on church members of the KIBAID church in Tana Toraja, a church strategy indicator (X4) at a low category. It means seldom to be done. In other words, it is low in its implementation.
